Dear Bill;Thanks-That PA/PB is absolutely a masterpiece and I would love to see the pictures. The mechanic told me that the owner has him add 2 oz of motorcycle blend castor oil to the gas tank to get that racing aroma. Smells great and reminds me of the same aroma at the Cole Palen Aerodrome in Rheinbeck on the Hudson in New York. Wasn't Castrol originally "Castor Oil" developed for early aircraft? Tally Ho! Thom: Missed seeing you this year at GOF Sebring, Wife just out of the hospital. Castrol "R", which used to be sold by Castrol, is the vegetable oil used in race cars. I used to use it in my Porsche racing cars just to smell the aroma. Of course it was used in all aircraft rotary engines during WWI, and in fact Tazio Nuvolari, the famous Italian racing driver (MG's as well as Buggati's, Alfa's, etc.) attributed his premature death, due to breathing so much of the fumes of it. Badger, who detests mowing the grass, runs Castrol R in his power mower to enhance the olfactory sensibility thereby making the exercise (barely) tolerable. Badger

Apparently the Castrol oil also gave him the ability to travel into the future as well. How else could he have attributed (as in past tense) his death to breathing so much of the fumes? David Edgar, TC 5108 El Cajon, California

The smell of Castrol "R" at Silverstone in the early sixties when weekend club racers would thrash their MGs, Minis and Loti around and then drive them home! That was when it had barely recovered from being a wartime airfield complete with Control Tower and a grandstand built of tubular scaffolding! Long before it became an up-market gin-palace.
