----- Original Message ----- From: sculptart@aol.com To: mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, April 21, 2002 11:58 PM Subject: [mg-tabc] wheel repair/straightening To all, I have told from a friend following my car that one of my wheels appear to be crooked. There is no rim damage, so I am going to try to straighten them...sort of like a motorcycle wheel I did many years ago. Has anyone attempted this with a TC wheel and have any helpful hints? I know I can send them out for this work to one of the suppliers, but I would like to do this myself and have the pride of a job well done. Thanks in advance for any help. Perfectly possible as long as the spokes aer not rusted in
TIPS?
Take tyre etc off and soak the nipple reads with penetrating oil for a day before
and
Always start by slackening the spoke before tightening it
and
Have a few spare spokes for the ones that break!

Regarding British Wire Wheel. Their expert, John Blake has been laid
off and is now on his own. I just purchased 5 Dunlops from BWW and had
John do the truing, mounting and balancing. The tires were $156.00 and
since John is back and fourth there was no freight to him for the
Dunlops. He trued four of the five, # 5 is beyond truing, for $25.00
each. Mounting and balancing by hand was $20.00 each. The only
expensive part was the shipping and handling. He wrapped each tire and
wheel individually and shipped UPS Ground. $170.00. They did arrive in
excellent condition. I shipped the rims FedEx overnight to him for
$65.00. I should have sent him a return air bill.
They run great. Very smoth. He charges $3.00 per spoke and I needed
only one and he uses stainless.

wheel repair/straightening
Mark,
Thanks for your comments regarding John Blake. He currently has my
five wheels for relacing and truing and has similarly mounted and
balanced five new tires. I can't wait until they arrive and I can
get my TC back on the road.

Tony,
The Black Country is so named because of the colour of the soil.
Largely invisible these days though!
