K & N Air Cleaner for some TC Air Cleaners

Post by John T. Seim » Sat Apr 06, 2002 7:52 pm

I reinvestigated the K & N Filter for my TC today. Previously, I had assumed (Yes we all know what ass u me is) what the I.D. of the air cleaner cannister that is on my TC, based on the removeable aluminum cover. Found the O.D. of the aluminum cannister lid to be 4.40". There is a K & N air cleaner, 4.438" O.D., 2.625 I.D., and 6.75" long. I will purchase one, to verify fit. Edges of air filter might have to be shaved with razor blade to make fit. And, if you are too lazy to clean filter after 1 year, just turn the filter around in the cannister, presenting the other end for intake and filtration. John Seim Irvine, CA

Hi all! There is a Purolator air filter that works in the repro canister. P/N is AF4310 or the old number is A24310. The filter slips into the canister with enough resistance to not require any means of fastening it in position. It is cheap, and has a wire grid over the outside, so it looks pretty good. The drawback is that the intake area is pretty small, since the little holes are the total area through which the filter can pull air. Hence, I have ordered a "air sock" like the ones we used to put over old velocity tubes on Weber carbs. These work well, and give a much greater area through which to draw air. They are washable, too. It will fit into the canister and can be clamped to the aluminum base with a hose clamp. The central fixing bolt of the canister will pass through the center of the sock, and a small wire screen inside the sock lets it hold shape. Best, Ray
