First, a well done to John B. to secure the paper on color from John Marks!
My problems were concluded as the source I used repainted the faces to the
proper color after questioning me "What makes you think you are an expert".
Of course, there was a special color match additonal charge. I do not think
this is the place to name names, but I would be glad to share, off list, my
problems if any one is looking for a source.
Thanks to all for the good advice and confirmations!

Bill,
Thank you for the kind words. John Marks has just informed me that more
info. will be coming and that he is more then willing to do the TA/TB faces.
The cost will be greatly reduced if more sign on. Ray McCrary was making a
list...the more the merrier etc.
Cheers all,
John

Re: Instrument colors
I had the instruments for my TA0455 overhauled by John Marks in early 1974.
The quality of the work was good but to be honest i would be unhappy today
if they had been done to the same standard.
Probably none of us then would have known then the differences between the
different T series types anyway.
Today however again probably due to the quality of materials available in
1974 the faces have become rust pitted and require renewing.
I have been told that if they are pitted then probably the instrument needs
overhaul and no faces are sold separate.
The instruments work fine so why should i pay for an overhaul when all i
need are faces.
I understand the reasoning that people could put new faces on old
instruments and say they were reconditioned but feel that that is not our
main problem at the moment.
A company in Britain makes faces
bedforddials.co.uk
and would be willing to produce faces if enough people were willing to place
an order to make it economicly viable.
They think that they have the tooling to produce to correct specifcation but
require samples.
They are not too large as to want to receive many phone calls but if you
want to check out their website you have an idea what they are capable of.
If John Marks is willing to sell just the faces great but if not then i
would say we put an order together for this company
PS i seem to remember that there was a small PYREX name in a circle on the
original glass of the speedometer and rev counter but is my memory playing
tricks?
also if you look at the picture of TA0251 -CJO 617? the speedometer runs
from the 2 oclock position not the 8 oclock position

Re: Instrument colors
Dave while I am not a gauge guy, I am in the repair business since 1973, the level of workmanship in those days was good and commensurate with the value of the cars worked on, I remember a fellow in the "T "Register who in the early 1970s had invested the princely sum of $3000.00 in his restoration including a set of Borrani wire wheels, we were all amazed you could spend that type of money on a T car. I suspect that your gauge faces were in very nice condition 27 years ago considering that they were already 25 years old which is why John did not replace them then, also maybe he was concerned in adding an additional price to what may have been at the time an already expensive price. My carburetor rebuilding has evolved in the last 25 years as I am sure has Johns business. As for the Pyrex on the lens may I suggest that the lenses then were some sort of Laboratory item that were pressed into service, since T series cars had not broken the sound barrier at that time so to what end would they have to withstand Pyrex type heat.

Thats probably because they are probably from a P type........this car
resides in Vancouver and lots of the parts are P type.......One should never
take an 0251 of any type as repersentive of what happened once production
started......they were usually cobbled up from the parts bin of the previous
model........
