TC Maker and Guarantee plates

Post by Bill Hentzen » Thu Feb 28, 2002 5:16 pm

Looking for some help, please The maker, guarantee and Made in England plates should be nickle plated, I believe, but the ones available from Moss and Abingdon Spares are brass, not nickle plated. About 10 -12 years ago, there was a source in the UK called Classic Reproductions, but I think they were taken over by Moss. I can use the rather tatty original plates with a bit of the silver still showing, but it would be nice to clean up TC 6391 with its new paintwork. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Cheers! Bill I would try to reuse the originals if at all possible, at least they are genuine and their obvious age is at least honest. Few people seem to have the original body plates so it would be a pity not see them where they belong attesting to the age of the car. I nearly made the same mistake with the windscreen "Auster" plate thinking that as it is in full view it must look as good as the rest of the car. Luckily the the modern repros. were so bad that I stuck with the original. I did not have the original underbonnet plates which you have but I would have stuck with the originals if I could have. I plan to tart up my original plates with brush-on or wipe-on silver plate, followed by matte lacquer. David Cameron
