I fit racing type rod ends (rose joints) on my TC with a steering box conversion. Very precise steering with these.

Thanks, but I'm looking for a modern replacement part, not the original style.  With a Datsun box and replacement-type rod (5/8 thread), it makes sense to replace with the same modern type as is on there now.  More precise steering and a fraction of the cost of original types. Lots of off-line replies, but no one seems to have a part number.  I guess I'll have to raid the local Napa, armed with measuring tools. - Steve Simmons, TC8975

hi Steve - if your threads are 5/8" x 20tpi then they are the original British Cycle thread, so are they the original rods with a male thread? In which case replacement ball joints might be very difficult to find. If however you used MGB items with 5/8" x 18 UNF threads, not only are they cheap but easily obtainable. All you would have to do is make up new rods using thick-walled tubing. cheers Roger

Good plan Roger but I'm not sure there are any modern ball joints with left hand threads, so you would need to detach one of the joints from it's steering arm to adjust the tracking. I hope I'm wrong as it sounds like a good plan. Regards Peter.

5/8 X 18 tpi tie rod ends are readily available in both RH & LH threads. If the track rod is actually 5/8 X 20 a new track rod with 5/8 X 18tpi ends are also available. You might have to look a bit to find one the right length or have it made. That might be the quickest and easiest solution unless you are on a limited budget. And herein lies the confusion. The Moss catalog states that their replacement ends are 5/8-20 and must be used with their own rods, because the original thread is 5/8-19. My rods appear to be 20TPI and yes they are male thread. If the attachment comes through, there is a photo of what I'm currently equipped with. - Steve Simmons, TC8975 On 9/30/2014 5:05 AM, ROGER FURNEAUX wrote:
