What type of fluid should be used in Armstrong or Girling shocks on a T series car? I know Moss and the others sell Armstrong Shock Fluid but is there a suitable readily available hydraulic oil that is safe to use? Brian Dubin

I have no first hand knowledge on this but have heard of others using motorcycle shock fluid. Available at your local motorcycle dealer and in various weights. I use motorcycle fork oil in all my M.G.s. It comes in various weights. I find 20 wt. works well without being too stiff. The principle advantage of motorcycle fork oil is that it contains a seal sweller that reduces leakage. I first started using it in the leaky front shocks of my 66 MGB GT back in 1981. Motorcycle shock oil works fine as sill most 20W shock oils. Just make sure whatever you use has anti-foaming agents in it. - Steve S, TC8975, LA, CA -
