carb info & su issues
Dear John and Listers,
Oddly enough I am in need of exactly the same thing you are! I've no idea where my carbs came from ( I bought them in a box with lots of extra junk)
I believe I have all the pieces but I can't figure out the slow running linkage with that spring.
One other problem in particular bothers me regarding the cork jet seal and the similar cork seal for the jet securing nut. They are both seated in conically faced (cupped) washers yet the cork seals as supplied are flat. Do I have the wrong cork seals? Or do they eventually conform to the cupped brass washers? Or am I supposed to shave them to shape?
I am going to try to post some pictures to the group home site which shows an original seal as I removed them. I believe the concave edge shows they were originally flat and squashed down later, but am unsure.
Also one or two pictures which show the linkage dilemna.

Mike the cork seals (packing) are supplied "square" and with the proper spring, and cups they conform nicely to that diamond shape you are familiar with, the only ones I have ever seen in the diamond shape were some aftermarket nylon ones. If you study the way that they are installed they will constantly be held tight against the jet tube and will be gas tight for a long while. I use a cork rubber material in my rebuilds and this works very well, for a long time.

Michael The seal for the jet securing nut are correct, you need to soak them in oil or similar along with the jet seat, the will conform and usually will not leak if you do this, if you do not soak them they probably will leak. Cheers Dean -----Original Message-----

Following advice from this list a couple of years ago I rebuilt my jets using silicone grease on the seals. Silicone grease is impervious to fuel, unlike oil. Worked a treat and cured a chronic problem area. Cheers, Dave TC9964 Aberdeen

Hi Michael,
don t worry. Everything is okay. The new seals are flat. The important thing is that you have to dip these kind of seal some hours (better: days) in oil before you fit them. The conical face comes automaticly with the pressure of the spring in the middle.
If you fit new paper seals, fit them always wet (I dip them in warm water).
Carb linkage: I ve rebuilt these days a set 1 1/2" carbs for the TC. You can buy all items new.
Price for the slow running lever: ~ 25$ (in Germany).
