Re: TC chassis
There was a time when for a small fee American garages would spray used motor oil on the underside of your car as a rust preventive. Few back then understood that the English had developed the advanced technology to make it automatic.

Re: TC chassis
Morgans have a similar factory installed oiling system, efficiency is based upon the power plant installed. I would say that none of them approach the thoroughness of the XPAG system. The side rails of the Morgan chassis are made of fairly thin Z section sheet metal that is prone to rusting and stress cracking in certain areas, not nearly as strong as the channel used on the TC, but a good deal lighter.Steve TC2911

I wouldn'y know about the morgan, but don't forget the TC has the factory fitted Xpag oil leak chassis protection system to help preserve the chassis, though some owners have tried to remove the system.Mike TB0457

Agreed, I spent quite some time wire brushing old paint and surface rust from every inch of the chassis of TC2911 and also had a chance to slightly straighten it a tad. It was one stout piece of steel compared to that of a Morgan. But I must say I did enjoy building a new chassis for my Morgan and a couple more for projects I was involved with at the time.Steve

Steve, Not only is the metal much stouter, the TC frame has some curves that would be harder to reproduce and some forgings and is mostly riveted together. In comparison the Morgan chassis is dead simple. Charles Hill On 1/9/2015 6:39 PM, Stephen D Stierman morgan7709@sbcglobal.net [mg-tabc] wrote:

Re: TC chassis
It may sound mad, but many pre-war vehicle were protected like that. We did wash and cleaned the bottom of the car. After drying the bottom, some used oil is shimiered all over, with some cloth. But after that we will take a nice drive in a dusty country road. This dust and oil will give a kind of protection for the monsoon. But the in the tropical coastal area the humid salty wind will eat up every thing in one or two season

Re: TC chassis
I believe that some people do not believe me about the 2 TC built after they stopped producing them. I would suggest that people look at how many MGs had BX or TH registration numbers and how many were not standard. Lowndes had a very good relationship with MG (Not with Cecil Kimber however because he was referred to by the elder Mr. Lowndes as the car salesman who would not do a deal!!!). Lowndes was used by MG when they went for records at Pendine Sands for car servicing etc. When i have time i will search the records in the Record office in Carmarthen for 2 TC,S Registered after the TD was in production. I can supply a new chassis for a or TA, TB,TC or if you really want a K3 there is a man in Yorkshire who builds them new to a high standard. My recent post about TA special competition parts on MG headed notepaper came from Lowndes. David Darrell TA 0455 CHY 605 TA 2778 ABX 919 Supplied new by Lowndes with aero screens, 2 tone paint reversing lights etc shown on invoice copy from Lowndes given to me by Mr Lowndes son UK

I wonder if that is the Ex-Mark Hineline (?) frame...Remember him from around 8 years ago? He was going to hand-build every part and construct a TC from scratch, and appeared to have been making good progress.....And I believe he started in California but got relocated up to that area. Then he got divorced or something similar. ~Mark TC8126EXU

Re: TC chassis
I heard a story about 1936 model BMW 328 chassis. They want to manufacture a new BMW sport car chassis. There was no enough fund available. Nearby there was another shop making gas street light post with iron tubes of different diameters for different length. So those people made an offer to make tubular chassis in their shop. They had all the raw materials and the machine to fabricate that. That is how those old BMW sports car with a 2 litter, six cylinder engine and tubular chassis was born. And it was a success.
It can be true!!!

Not mad at all Madhu, hence the "creation" of products like waxoyl, although used more effectively by spraying inside of closed panels that are likely to trap moisture causing rot from inside out.Steve TC2911

Good question...I remember Mark well from the list. Sent him a lot of spare parts I didn't need to help him out...then life, and I believe a divorce, got in his way.

Re: TC chassis
Re: [mg-tabc] TC chassis I could be wrong but doubt it is Mark Hineline’s old frame. Mark’s frame was more rusty and was missing the left front dumb iron spring mount and was on Craig’s List back in March 2014. Believe that listing was by someone who Mark may have sold it to. Mark’s frame was stamped TC 3409 but Mark had gotten it from someone who switched frames to his TC but kept the TC 3409 designation and thus we had the problem of two TC 3409 out there.
Yes Mark was making great progress on his scratch built TC (but started with a genuine TC frame) but life (divorce) got in the way and the project stopped and parts sold off last I heard. I was lucky enough to have met Mark when he lived here in So. California. Very nice fellow. Lost track of him when he moved to the northeast area of the USA.
