G'day John, Oil leaks? Why fight nature.. learn to live with it. Castrol's not that expensive, you know. Short story: A few years ago in Canberra, the artificial city created as the 'Capitol' o this fair land ( and thus was ruined perfectly good grazing land) the Annual MG National Meeting was held. The host centre dazzled the visitors by acquireing many stately venues for backdrops over the 5-day MG-fest. 'Registration' was held in a very swank building , complete with polished tiles under the grand entrance. Parking quickly became a problem, however a mate in his J2 short-circuited this difficulty by wheeling in under the Grand Vestibule and onto The Sacred Tiles. A few minutes later the 'Jobs-Worth' started jumping up and down, pointing to the spreading oil beneath the tiny MG's engine. He was trying to sop-up the mess with his hanky when my friend returned. When faced with castigation, castration, condemnation, the MG owner dismissed the fracas with a sweep of the hand, claiming the Midget was ... "merely leaving its mark!" The moral: Surely' ....if you can't beat it ---- replenish it Regards from (an oily) Jeff TA2828 TC3306

Greetings Jeff, I enjoyed your story, I fully understand your point and tend to agree but I feel obligated to explain that certain of my fellow Americans, probably mostly on our left coast (I won't mention the "C" word), have a tendency to experience severe chest pains and/or migraines if so much as a single droplet of wretched oil should dare to soil the virginity of spotless concrete whiteness of either garage floor or, heaven forbid, the obligatory twenty foot concrete slab which extends out to the street which they call their "driveway". Actually, I thought the greater problem for MG owners "down under" was oil drips on the ceiling caused by a leaky oil filler cap gasket. Badgah

You guys still don't get it when they stop leaking they are out of oil, and it is time to refill. Joe

Guys, I have used the JB Weld treatment on many blocks to restore the Archimedes scroll area. I use a mold-release agent rather then Teflon tape (I have even used Pam a couple of times!) to get the smallest clearance, but I am sure the tape method would work. This method works!! You will reduce the leak to very nearly zero, and preserve the block. It works on any of the British engines with the scroll seal. T cars, the A, Early B, modern Midgets- any of them. Two things, though.....make that three- Balance the rotational mass to reduce crank whip, make sure the surfaces that you are bonding to are clean, and -very important-make sure that you have a mold release agent in position before tightening up that main cap! If you don't do so, you will make a VERY expensive coffee table base. JB Weld does not come off. I have a cracked diesel tractor engine whose block has run for several years now after being repaired with the stuff. Best Regards, Ray "Remember- It's the collision with the planet that counts!"
