My TA was apart when I recently got it. The scuttle top has five holes in the center (between the two humps). Where are the studs for the tonneau cover located? How many are on the scuttle top piece?
From the photographs that I have seen, the TA did not have a mirror in the center of the scuttle top. The mirror was mounted on the windshield pillar. Is this correct?
Thanks

None of the T-Types came originally with a full tonneau. They has a half tonneau covering only the area behind the seats. Therefore there is no "original" position for tonneau studs on the cowl. Generally you need at least two per side, more often three. If there is a hole dead center between the humps up close to the windscreen, that originally had an ugly roud-headed wood screw in it, securing the wood spacer piece underneath. In some cars you'll find aftermarket interior rear view mirrors mounted in that hole.> My TA was apart when I recently got it. The scuttle top has five holes > in the center (between the two humps). Correct, but see above regarding aftermarket interior mirrors. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. Second thoughts: You said you have five holes in the cowl between the humps. Here's what they might have been for: 1 hole: For the round-headed screw I mentioned in my earlier reply. 2 holes: Two tonneau mounting studs. 2 holes: Two screw holes or bolt holes for mounting an aftermarket interior rear view mirror. Only the hole for the round-headed screw is original, if you're concerned about that. Any others in the cowl were added later. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. Re: MG TA Scuttle Top
Just a little more " pedantic " trivia to add. On the TA and TB cars the
"ugly" round headed screw between the scuttle humps was originally chrome
plated. After the war on the TC this was just painted along with the body.
BTW so far most TA,TB , and SVW folks seem to feel that LUVAX installed
those brass tags on the shock arms at manufacture...Thanks to all who took
the time to write !
