MG TA /TB LUVAX shocks

Post by John G. Bulcken IV » Thu Jan 31, 2002 8:29 am

Hello TA / TB folks,
I am ready to paint my Luvax shocks. These came from Graham Brown in the UK. I have three original arms and one reproduction one. The org. arms have small round brass tags riveted to them with a number code. The repro. arm does not. I have a tag to put on this one but before I do I would like to know if these tags were put on by Luvax when the shocks were made from 1936 - 1939 ? I have heard that these were rebuild tags installed latter. I have also heard that they were added by Girling when they bought Luvax after the war. Does anybody know more about this ? I would prefer to remove them if they were not on the shocks originally.
Cheers,
John

No problem Carlyle, I did post this info. in the past. and others may need it. Vintage & Classic Shock Absorbers c/o Graham Brown 203 sanderstead Road, South Croydon Surrey CR2 OPN Tel/ fax 0181 651 5347 Yes, Graham makes the shocks and they are exactly as original except that they are made of cast steel and will last forever unlike the original pot metal...the attention to detail and casting #'s is superb. He was not sure at the time about the brass tags though. Tell him I sent you as I may need some more for a VA saloon project. He is a reliable vendor, and feel free to ask about this issue...I do not have an email for him but am sending a fax...perhaps he has more info. now as I purchased the shocks some time ago. BTW the repro. arm has all the correct casting #s on it. As for the rest of you...how about an opinion on this issue...no matter how pedantic it may seem. Only two responses, and one from the SVW list ! Cheers, John TB#0398

My TA Tickford has the wrong shocks at present. The LUVAX shocks on my 1936 TA have the brass tags. They appear to be original. Ken Enborg
