Post by Ron J. Zeraldo » Fri Jan 25, 2002 4:56 pm

Aside from being an MG collector...I also collect licence plates, anyone with old licence plates from any part of the world please let me know what you have. I am currently looking for a set of CALIFORNIA plates (preferably black plate). Willing to trade for a set of plates from Ontario, Canada or pay your price.
Thanks,
Ron

Ha-ha! Nice try!!! You must not be aware that everyone else also knows that a pair of California black plates is worth megabucks!! What gave you away is your asking for a "pair", which is the only way they are worth lots of money. A true collector would have been happy with just "one" plate from a set. Bob

Yes, it is apparently true.....according to my transporter, who follows the selling prices of them on eBay. Apparently, an original PAIR of California black plates will go for as high as $200 on eBay, because the buyers will put them on cars with extensive rust repair and say that they are original, rust-free California cars, and get a lot more money for them!!! Hi Bob, is it really true that Calif. "Black Plates" are worth a more than a few US$$$$ ? If I recall correctly, a jaguar that I purchased from California had black plates on it. I don't know what I did with them but, since I never throw anything out, they must still be around. Ontario plates are not worth the price of postage. So you want old black California plates. You might try Dave Hindman at http://hometown.aol.com/davesclp/ca/plates.htm I acquired a mind set of 1948 for the TC and they look great. No, I'm not going to tell you how much. They were too much, but the look is great! Rick Storms TC 6776

I had a set of New York plates restored by Darryl's in Pennsylvania, sort of slow turn around but work was excellent and he did some bodywork on them. Remember the person who was looking for proper British plates I saw a while back in a Classic & Sports Car a fellow who supplied such plates Period Number Plates (CSC) POB 6663 Birmingham B36 OAU West Midlands 0121-747-3677 P&F I do not know this guy or the quality or accuracy of his work but the ad sounds good.
