Leaking Water Drain Tap

Post by Mark Stolzenburg » Sun Nov 11, 2001 7:15 am

I installed a Moss Motors in block Water Drain tap (#434-240). It leaks at the bottom of the shaft that is turned to open or close the tap. While the leak appears to be minor, it is enough to kept the engine block right below the tap damp. Does anyone have a fix?

Interesting, as I experienced the same problem with the same part. It seems to have improved with time and use. Opening and closing repeatedly seems to eventually help it seat properly. I think it is probably a result of poor machining.

Hi Mark

Take the tap apart, clean the tapered part of the valve, inner and outer, if you can get

some valve grease, smear it on the tapered part and put back together, if you can

not get valve grease, Teflon pipe dope will work, you need to rotate the valve a few time

to spread the grease around. If this does not work, get back to me
