These guys are GOOD! I had an early TC grille shell that 4 shops had been unable to do, due to a "dpo" putting a giant oil can into it with a pecking hammer and it being so thin from having so many folks work on it. QCP did a beautiful job. Expensive, but you get what you pay for. The shop has more Pebble Beach wins than you can shake a stick at. Cheers...Andy

RADIATOR SHELLS

Post by Joe Gates » Mon Nov 26, 2001 12:14 pm

The general concensus of opinion over time appears to indicate that radiator shell fins should be coloured to match the upholstery. However, I also note that some T-Types radiator fins (mine included) are chromed. So, a point of trivia - which is correct, alternatively - is one more correct than the other?

Page 200-201 in TCs Forever indicate slats match upholstery. I would go with what you like Joe, unless you are want an original show car. If you are from California, chrome is quite acceptable.

David, Not all of us from California favor chromed slats although an airbrush rendering of The Grateful Dead might be considered tasteful by some of my friends in Marin County : ) Actually, even though incorrect, I have always painted my slats body color. I like it that way. Regards, Dick

I dont think anyone could think anything looked as strange as my Seafoam green exterior with international orange underfenders and radiator slats, as painted by the previous owner in 1966... BLACK, here I come. But maybe if I the leave the orange rad slats... Regards Mark TC8126

Chrome plated grille slats are *considerably* less correct. No TC ever left the factory that way. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. TC TC6710 XPAG7430 NEMGTR #2271 Cub Hill, Maryland 1962 Triumph TR4 CT3154LO CT3479E fold@bcpl.net

Joe: The chrome grilles came on some TD MK IIs, and that is all. The correct ones are color of the seats. Skip............................................. At 10:23 PM 11/26/01 +0200, Joe Gates wrote:

Rad slats were almost always painted upholstery colour on T-ABC and most TDs. I don t think chrome was ever correct on early cars. The TD Mark 2 had chrome grill slats and so did the TF.

If you have chrome fins you need chrome upholstery. (Very hard to find these days. Must have been a period accessory.)
