Steering Wheel Cover Assembly

Post by Terry O'Brien » Thu Oct 18, 2001 9:01 pm

On page 229 of "TCs Forever" there is a picture of the above. My TC which is pretty original and has never been apart before doesn't have the two half cups which form the inner bushing. Moss, Abingdon and NTG don't illustrate it in their catalogues nor so far as I can find in their price lists. Is it necessary or even desirable and if so does anyone know where it can be obtained? Terry I too have never seen these two half bushes and always seen the felt bush. I have worked on and owned many TCs since 1965. Anybody else have these half cups? Bob

Moss does carry the felt bushing on page 70, item #25. It is not the two cups but a strip that you roll over the shaft and is what I have seen as original. I even bought one from Moss back in the early days for 50 cents as listed on page 12 of their eleventh edition catalog. I have a roller sleeve bearing in there now. Forgot the number but it fits over the shaft to fit but needs some shim stock to make it fit tight in the tube. It is also listed in the Moss catalog but is included with the Tompkins steering kit. It is the item in the lower right corner of the box. I have the number of the bearing written down some place in my piles of notes and will try finding it if there is a strong desire by someone and no one else pipes up with it.
