Lucas headlamps

Post by Jorolibb@aol.com » Wed Sep 19, 2001 4:57 pm

Dear MG folks, I have a pair of Lucas M143 headlamps that include the shell, rims and only one reflector. These were part of the "package" when I bought my J2 years ago. Now I have the means (these lists) to help me find out what cars they were used on (British cars - just trying to save you the trouble Badger!) I don't need these as I have a pair of K624 Rotax lamps and would like to find someone who could use these. I have digital photos available for anyone who would like to see them. They have the mounting points at 90 degrees to what all Lucas lamps on MG's have. Please help find a good home for these. Someone might really need these to finish their restorations of ....? Thanks, John Libbert J2 3118 TC 2138

LUCAS Headlamps

Post by Poulsen, Gorm (Vejle) » Wed May 21, 2003 12:24 am

Dear all By renovating my TA I found on the Lucas headlamps the Joseph Lucas, etc number L150 ( on the black riveted bracket under the crome shell ). As neither Anders Ditlev Clausager nor Malmcoln Greene in their books mention this nr ( L 150 ) for TA ( but some other numbers ) I wonder if the headlamps are for a TA ? Any help out there ? Gorm, Denmark TA 1607 - 1937

Gorm I'm no expert on this, but my understanding is that the L150s were fitted to export cars (TAs and possibly some TCs), and were optional for home-market cars. They were a double-dippping type - which was quite a step up from the standard 'dip & switch' 140s. So, my guess is that your L150 is correct for a TA. cheers Richard

Gorm, I have always believed the L150 is correct for TA...but not TB or TC. The factory would have put on any lamps that were available....so if they were out of stock of L150s but had plenty of M140s then thats what they would have fitted.....all this despite what the parts books say. The above statement can be attributed to Henry Stone who worked at our beloved factory for 43 1/2 years. Regards Harry

Yes, I bought mine from him and shipped to UK. Good quality and pleased with them, except for the bulb holders, which had loose terminals, and also I found that I had to camouflage Bill s yellow paint on the rim where it showed around the edge of the standard chrome bezel. Roger Dorset UK

The tripod lamps have flat glass, and are intended to be used with a different rim which curves farther around. The stock rims work, but do leave a small gap showing. The correct rims for the flat glass lamps are very difficult to source these days. - Steve Simmons, TC8975 On 12/27/2017 9:03 AM, Roger Bateman rogerbateman@rocketmail.com [mg-tabc] wrote:
Yes, I bought mine from him and shipped to UK. Good quality and pleased with them, except for the bulb holders, which had loose terminals, and also I found that I had to camouflage Bill s yellow paint on the rim where it showed around the edge of the standard chrome bezel. Roger Dorset UK
