hood supports

If all else fails, try a couple of rubber door stops. Set them on the edge of the tool box and then place the bonnet side on top. Works well and they are cheap.

Hood supports

We place one of the wedge shaped rubber door stops at each end of the hinge on the OUTSIDE of the bonnet and when you fold it back on itself the sheet metal is supported stress free and the bubber doesn't mark the paint. Almost free and very portable.. . . Sally. . . . Or Griot's(A subsidiary of . . . . Porsche) has avery nice telescoping twist lock one which adjust to suit the car whichever model you have. Its about $25 and made of anodized rods with rubber tips. Find them on line at www.griotsgarage.com.

Hood Supports

Post by Mark Stolzenburg » Fri May 24, 2002 7:14 pm

I have seen pictures of what appears to be a rod or tube attached to the front hood latch that holds the hood panels up in a sort of "gullwing" style. Looks like a good way to work on the engine. Anyone on the list have plans/designs? Thanks, Mark Stolzenburg TC 7812 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Mark The support I made only holds open one side. It is a 1/2 inch dowel of about 18 inches in length and the ends cut at parallel angles. At one end is a hole with 1/8 inch parachute cord knoted through. The other end has a small loop just large enough to slip over the windscreen folding nut. In use, the end of the stick is placed in the spring loop of the rear latch, the other end is placed in the lip of the center strip flange, and the loop slipped over the windscreen nut. BTW, I added a washer of the proper thickness under the windscreen nut so when tighted the nut's wings are vertical. That way when the door is closed with the side curtains on, the front side curtain doesn't have to pop over the wing nut's wings. It also then keeps the wing nut from wearing a notch in the side curtain's binding. Blake

I have made a set that are real simple to make, bend up a small channel iron out of heavy sheet metal about 3/8x3/8x3/8 about 5" long . Next cut though the 2 sides about the center, leaving the bottom, them bend closed to about a 45% and solder or weld. Next drill a hole at the top to bolt it to the radiator stay rod where it bolts to the radiator.this gives you trough for the front rubber corner protector to set in.. The 45% angle should be checked before soldering or welding to get the hood to set good. I made a set for my TC and TD they work very well. If you have a problem with the directions let me know and I will try to come up with a drawing.
