Coil temperature

Post by Tombutlercpa@cs.com » Tue Aug 21, 2001 3:50 pm

How hot does the coil on a TC get, typically? I have recently replaced/rebuilt almost the entire ignition system installing a new crane breakerless system and a Lucas sports coil. Car runs great but coil gets hot to the touch after a few minutes time. Is this normal? Am I burning out the coil?

Tom The coil will get hot, it is just a matter of how hot, it is really a transformer, and when you have electricity going thru a transformer it will get hot, the more, the hotter it gets. Cheers Dean

Tom I wouldn't think you are burning the coil out.I fitted a Crane Cams breakerless sytem to my MPJG with a Lucas Sports Coil. Sure the coil gets hot but I have no problems after many miles. At least I get wonderful starting now!! Regards Roger Muir
