oil leak

Hi Paul, just had the same trouble on my TC, one side OK, one side came loose and had to replace it. To glue them on is a bit tricky, but if done right it lasts a life time. Mine well over ten years now, until one side started leaking. Hope it will hold as from now. Good luck, Dirk TC0660

My engine had no leak for the first 30 miles. Yesterday I smelt burning oil and have looked today. There is oil running (not dripping) from the starter bendix hole in the bell housing. It isn't coming through the bottom of the housing. I suspect the camshaft core plug is leaking. What do you think. Either way the engine will come out after the CT and my daughter has gone home.  So that's 2 TC's with engine oil leaks to solve and a Mini Cooper S for a rebuild,.the small ride-on to fix, the big mower on the tractor to fix, and awning to fit to the wall outside, the grass to cut... I may get to sit down for Christmas dinner.

That sucks! But I don't understand how it can come out the starter bendix hole and not come out the bottom hole in the bell housing.  Is it plugged? Silly me, I've just realised the camshaft is the opposite side to the starter. The flywheel may be throwing it round.

 

I'll find out when the engine comes out. Will be week after next as our daughter will be here next week.

Norman,

If the split pin in the drainage hole is free to move and no oil is dripping out, the leak is not from inside of the bell housing.

Check the gasket under the valve cover.
