TCs FOREVER

Post by BobAlley747@aol.com » Thu Aug 22, 2002 12:28 am

Sounds like other people are comming up with the same questions I have
concerning Sheerrell's book. I to was faced with the sidescreen box/wood
size difference, decided to go with the 3 3/16 size wood. The problem I'm
having now is the spacing of the holes at the bottom of the rear panel and
that of the metal sidescreen box. The 6 1/8 spacing on the rear panel matches
nothing on the metal box I'm I missing something? Also why does the bottom
rail in the box have an angle to it ? In his book he shows an angle iron
between the wheel arch wood and the rear panel vs a wooden corner block as
shown in the Moss catalog is it a difference in year? And last (for now) what
is the reason for the small cutouts and the bottom corners of the diff-ramp?
Thanks for and words of wisdom. Bob TC6198

Bob The back face of the TC body is not vertical: it's raked by about 2", so the rail has to have an angled face to suit the ply rear body panel. The holes on the 6 1/8 spacing are for wood screws fastening the back ply panel to the bottom rail. The holes in the metal box detail are for small screws attaching the metal to the outside of the back ply panel. The sub-chassis rails that support the body curve in round the inside of the rear wheel boxes. From the back of the door to the point where the rails rise over the back axle there is a 1/16" sheet stiffener standing vertically and the cutouts are required to clear these stiffeners. Hi, Bob- Yes, its a bit confusing back there. I just did all this last summer (and still finishing, following a major house move and work schedules that have kept me away from the garage): The only angle iron are the side rails, which extend up the diff ramp edges, across behind the inner fender wells and finally fasten via two bolts to the back panel. There are wood blocks that fasten to the back panel as well, and fit up against the inner fender wells. READ CAREFULLY: Dont predrill all those TC's Forever holes in your back panel, especially those (2) pairs that fasten to the rear flange of the above mentioned body irons. I think the thing that is throwing you regarding thoses holes along the base is that they are actually BEHIND that lip of the sidecurtain box sheet metal that turns up. What I did was centered that bottom rail against the bottom of the back panel (mind the angle that allows the back to tilt forward), clamp it, mark those holes on the back rails location via TCs Forever, drill the pilot holes for the #10 screws, take the bottom rail away, re-drill the thru-holes in the back panel with the correct clearance drill fror the screw shank, reposition and reclamp the bottom rail, screw the bottom rail to the back panel. Now this assembly is one piece. Then, use your sidescreen metal as a guide as to where the wood sides fit(square it all up) and drill/screw per above method. When you have the complete back assembly done (backboard, sides and sheetmetal), offer up this assembly to see WHERE the rear body angle flanges will fit nicely against the backboard, make sure it all looks square, and mark and drill the two pairs of holes for the the body iron mounting. I'll bet this is how the factory did it anyway, building that back as a unit. Regards Mark TC8126

PS: The below- Watch the location of those screws which hold the bottom rail to the backboard against the location of the pre-drilled holes in the turned up lip of that sidesceen panel. Otherwise, you may see the head of the bottom rail screws thru the holes of the turned up lip, just where you needed to put the wood screws to finish the assembly back there. Its a long story... TCs Forever

Hi out there a frequently asked question is where to obtain Mike Sherrell's book. In the past I have ignored this as I have a copy but a friend in South Africa wishes to obtain one. He is trying via a relative in Oz but as I am visiting Britain in October/ November I might try for him. Failing this my daughter is visiting Oz at the same time and maybe she could get one there. Please let me know the best source. Thanks Clem TC7218 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I believe that Skip Kelsey has a copy in stock.....www.shadetreemotors.com Amazon.com shows one available. Mike himself might be a source but you'll have to find someone else in Perth to handle the email..... Moss also sells them P/N 211-1325. The price seems steep to me but is $158.95. The Amazon price is about $140. -----Original Message----- From: mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com [mailto:mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Terry Sanders Sent: Thursday, August 25, 2005 12:45 PM To: 'MG-TABC' Cc: vernons@ibex.co.za Subject: Re: [mg-tabc] TCs Forever I believe that Skip Kelsey has a copy in stock.....www.shadetreemotors.com Amazon.com shows one available. I used Pitstop Bookshop in Perth. Got the book delivered very quickly to California and still saved money! - Steve S - TC8975, LA, CA
