From everything I've researched over the past couple years, 1200-1400 is considered ideal. 650 is way too low unless they're using a synthetic substitute of some kind to make up the difference. the "ideal" amount will vary from oil to oil because the formulations and additive packages are different, so 1200 in one may offer the same protection as 1500 in another. ZDDP levels are most important early in the engine's life. Bob, I have been using Red Line 20W50 for 14 years without a problem. I also use Red Line 75W140 in the gearbox and 80W140 in the diff. Ken Porter Manchester NH TC4147
