I have used Castrol oils for as long as I have had the TC ( 1956 ) and all is fine. I also use Sears Die Hard batteries always. They
last for years with my low mileage running.

Apparently some of you folks have not been reading the entire post on reduction of zinc in oils.....The new oils are only a problem if you are breaking in a new engine with new camshaft and flat tappets...if you are doing this, you really should go to the Crane website and read what they are saying..........the old/new Castro20/50 will be fine in your old worn out engines...but rebuild it an not pay attention to the lack of Zinc additive and you are asking for trouble. Sears Diehards are fine too if you run your car enough or use a tricklee charger.....

Re: OIL
So, I have an engine which has a new camshaft and lifters (2000 miles ago). I believe that assembly lube was used, bugt I did not actually see it. The lifters were galled slightly at 1000 miles. The oil used was Pennzoil 20W 50. At 1200 miles, I decided to take a look. the galling, according to the local camshaft shop, was hard to analyze, but he thought it was possibly dirt at assembly time.
I had the lifters cleaned up, and re-assembled with Federal Mogul assembly lube. Used 20W 50 Castrol GTX oil. Took them out again 1000 miles later for a look, and all is well.
I put them back in, again with lots of assembly lube.
Now, will adding the new oil wash the assembly lube off the lifters and lobes? I assume it is safe to go back to Castrol 20W 50?

Re: OIL
All I can say Rick is that I am switching to Delo 400 Diesel oil in all my engines. I used 20/50 Castrol for years but I switching. All that assembly lube you used had lots of ZDDP in it....and yes it will be diluted as you change oil....my thoughts are "why take the chance"?

Re: OIL
Terry, I noticed when i bought a case of Delo at Costco that they were already stocking the new Delo LE, so im thinking its time to invest in a couple more cases while the old formula is still available...BTW, the Crane site also noted Delo as an acceptable oil for use in breaking in their camshafts.......Aidan TC5381

Remember that that article says that Diesel oils too will change so keep a
weather eye out, Maybe the RED Line Products are what we should be using as they
say they make specific oils for old cars

Re: OIL
Joe, RED Line makes a great product but all their offerings are
Synthetic. Probably not the best choice for breaking in a newly rebuilt
motor or an older one which is already a bit "weepy".

Ok I did not know, I have bought the GM EOS and the tappet lube, we are still
digesting the applications on the bottles, it was not as cheap as the article
said I had to buy a case of each and retail price was about 12.00 each
