Spark Plugs
Hi Everyone,
I am hoping to get my TC on the road after a lapse of 17 years !!!
The exhaust system has been replaced with a "standard" s/s one as that
fitted would have been socially acceptable these days(stainless front pipe,
TR3 straight through and 2+ inch dia rear pipe). However this has caused the
mixture to be too rich, and of course we have unleaded petrol and the car is
missing.
The first thing I intend trying is a new set of spark plugs, the present
ones are NGK B6ES,
has any body reason to suggest that I try a different type considering the
fuel.
There is a filling station about 4 miles away which still retails 4 star
leaded @ 99.9 pence/litre, but I intend using unleaded with an additive at
first and get the head converted over the winter.
Regards
Alan Turner
TC 9752
I will be at Silverstone, hopefully.

You may also consider using a leaner needle in the carbs.
I downloaded a program some time ago that provides a very sophisticated
method for adjusting lean/rich across a range of rpm in SU carbs. I will
try to find it and send to you.

Hi
Anyone who thinks about using Champion plugs is asking
for problems. I and many others swear they are junk.
Serious racers stay away from them. I have been let
down by them more than once. Yuck. Use anybody elses.

Spark Plugs
Hi everyone,
While we're on the spark plug thread, I still have for sale a quantity of original Champion L-11-S plugs as specified by the factory for the TC when fitted with the Shorrocks supercharger. I believe these are at least 50 years old and are in pristine condition. They are still individually packaged in a cardboard box with a waxed paper instructionsheet/wrapper. I also have a couple of multi-packs of twelve plugs. They clearly pre-date the bubble pack by several decades. The are not fakes! (Oops that was an earlier thread)
There is no reason to believe they couldn't be used, but they would also look great in your spare plug holder, or as museum exhibits.
If anyone is interested in obtaining a set please contact me off-list.
Peter Cole.

Peter, I would be very interested in having a look at the software you
mentioned re SU tuning.
I would appreciate if you can let me know where can I find it.
Best regards
Martin

Re: Spark Plugs
The NGK Plugs (B6HS) are a correct heat range, and should work fine. I have ran
the Bosch Platinum 4214 for the past 10 years, and have found them very
reliable. Champion plugs in the past might have had some problems, due to not
glazing the electrode insulator. They are fine now. You would need to know the
modern part number. Champion has undergone at least 3 part number changes sine
the workshop manuals were published.
