I'm trying to research the history of the car, hence joining a site like the
T-ABC list! 1945 was the best guess from the guy who sold me the car, and
unfortunately the engine number is gone, and I haven't successfully located
the chassis number yet(v filthy etc.).
Joe, I may be able to help about your engine number tag being gone.....I noticed about a month ago when I was getting my engine ready for paint that about an inch below the brass engine tag (left side rear of the block - of course) that the engine number was stamped in the block. The stamping was not very deep into the block and if I had a couple coats of paint on it I would likely not have seen it. I have never read about a stamping such as this...actually I would be interested in hearing if any others had noted that. Rob Greaves Ottawa, Canada

Hi out there,
on page 8 of the "Brown Book" under engine type and number it states that "on export cars the number is also stamped on the near-side of the cylinder block." I have not been able to find this on my engine but on a Y Type block ,I have, this is clearly seen below the ID tag.

After a good long peer, I also found my engine number, stamped in "typewriter font", about 1/8" tall letters, just below the bottom leading edge of the brass tag. What a find, especially for verifying the originality; A magnifying glass would help... Now I have an ocular migrane! Regards from Ohio, Mark TC8126

Yes, we have seen these numbers on several TC blocks once they were boiled for a rebuild. On our TB this was not there but a 1939 date is cast into the block and sump on these if they are original. cheers, John and Crystal J.G.Bulcken IV TB#0398
