FT 27 Lamps
Larry,
I've had a FT27 on my black car since I got it from the infamous
BW 3 years ago. The first outing was to a local concours which the
car won and on the way home a stone cracked the glass. It
remains subtly cracked like an old war wound. No way will I hide it
away to take it out and gloat over it all alone when the moon is full.
This is not what Mr Lucas had in mind. In any event, like most of
his products, it doesn't work very well.
I have a second FT27 also from BW waiting for the cream car. I lent
it to a good friend for another concours and guess what? - another
small chip in the glass - so what! Soon this lamp will also be
exposed to the threats of the bangers on our local roads like it was
designed to do and will proudly grace the front of a TC bolted down
where it belongs.
When they bury me and the cars get sold, the FT27s go with 'em.
Rgds Viv
PS I don't hoard red wine either, I drink it to make sure there'll be
none left for my heirs!
Viv: I dont know about Roger, but I continue to run the generic
Lucas
type ugly one on the front of the car and my FT 27 is in its box
beside me in the den.....I take it out and pet it about once a month,
then put it away for another month. I guess I'm saving for Ebay,
after I sell the car. (Or the GF can sell it for a couple of bucks,
along with the rest of the TC residue, after Im gone.)
Hmmm......what's wrong with this picture?

Re: FT 27 Lamps
To All,
After the restoration of the TC was completed, I started to worry about
driving the car and those expensive pieces of glass out on the front. I found
a clear film in the Griot's Garage catalog and applied this to the FT 27 and
horseshoe headlamps. It is undetectable and I guess it's like insurance, one
does not know if it works until it is too late, but I figured the extra
protection would not hurt against stone chips. No problems so far and the
film does not yellow in the sunlight.
FYI, Griot's Garage, www.griotsgarage.com

Re: FT 27 Lamps
Ben, did you have any trouble getting the film to take to the glass
curvature, as the pictures in Griots all show flat glass applications?
