Friends,
My TC, Betsy, has a new stablemate! Struck a deal about an hour ago for
my '39 VA, chassis # VA 2008 S (S indicaribg saloon?) engine # TPBG 2294
(TPBG for "Police" 1707cc engine? ) British registration number HPH 554..
She is essentially intact; just the following few things are missing: Air
cleaner, vent window activator on right rear, tools & tool carrier liner for
the boot lid, one road wheel and lights for rear registration plate (which I
expect are similar to the "D"-lamps on a TC?). Some rust on panels at joints
with wings, some dings on headlight shells & rims and on wing lights, broken
main window in left front door, wing lights dinged, right side trafficator
missing.
Interior is in decent shape; has been reupholstered in biscuit leather
fairly recently; headliner and windlacing have suffered some moth damage, but
are intact, as is all of the interior wood trim. Structural wood seems to be
sound. Engine is free. Can find no evidence of a "Jackall" system, but that
does not particularly concern me at this point, since I'm uncertain if it was
standard equipment or not. Steering box seems to be in excellent condition.
All instruments are present, but actual condition is unknown. Radiator shell
in fine shape & will not neet rechroming.
Her name will henceforth be "Abigail"
The adventure begins!

Congradulations Carl....I'm sure you and Abigail will have a lot of fun
together!! Do you have the book M.G.'s on Patrol? There is a spec sheet in
there for the 1 1/2 Litre Police car. Most were Tourers and the engine was
bored out to 1705cc. I don't see right off if it was designated TPBG....
Cheers

Carl,
Congrats on your new "find". Are we going to see it at the next GOF South?

Congratulations. Please please keep it as a saloon. They are much nicer than fake tourers or even original tourers. Lovely cars. MG's rival to the 1 1/2 litre SS Jaguar which was my very first "old" car back in the 1960s before Glenys bought her first TA. I always fancied one myself. If you decide to retrofit the Jackall jacks, I have a spare restorable set from one of my post war MG YAs which should be the same (I think?). I hope we can talk about your VA on this list. The works TA trials cars used VA engines so I think that should allow us to include them! Happy MG motoring Cliff Best wishes Cliff> > Friends, > My TC, Betsy, has a new stablemate!
