Stuck clutch

Welcome Jonathan If the gentler methods fail, as they did when my TA cork clutch rusted on many years ago, you may try the following. Jack up the rear end securely on axle stands and chock the front wheels. Fire up the engine in top gear and take the revs up as high as you dare. You will see why the car needs to be well chocked when everything is vibrating. Hold down the clutch pedal with your left foot. Take the right foot off the accelerator and stamp hard on the brake pedal. The clutch should free with a bang. It is well worth wedging the clutch pedal down with a block of wood jammed against the seat squab if you store the car unused for any length of time again. Best of luck Cliff

Peter roll car out of garage away from anything in front of it, put foot on brake, other on clutch and hit the starter, it is a bit dramatic but usually works but we once had a TD where we had to remove the transmission. Joe Curto [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Probably rusted. I used to have that problem years ago working for an auto dealership in San Francisco. If we parked a car for any length of time, the clutch disk would end up stuck to the flywheel or the pressure plate and I would break it free by rocking the car in gear with the pedal depressed. If that didn't work, I would start the car in gear and drive it a little. Allright Dennis, I tried the starter trick(Joe Curto) - I feared the starter shaft to go or chip a tooth. I finally went to the violent way of doing things and did as you prescribed..... It took three attempts and .....TaDa it broke free!!!!! It did take a toll on my nerves with all the noise and noise in the rear end.!!! I told you it was a dramatic process. The TD I had the problem with was so stuck that I actually had to push start the car in gear and drove the car and had to jam on the brakes at about 30 miles per hour, all the while it had a locking left front brake and my foot was on the clutch. It never did release and we pulled the transmission and had to peel the disc off the flywheel . On my own TD I had same problem and last time I did it my clutch pedal shaft broke, causing the car to lurch and it put such a strain on my gear box it broke a web in the rear trans case, I was not to happy.
