XPAG Oil Leaks, Cooling, etc.

Post by Aristarcus@aol.com » Tue May 01, 2001 5:18 pm

As several members have posted comments or questions about oil leaks, I refer them to the T-ABCs_Forever Web Site Special Files section (http://www.mg-tabc.org). In order to access these files, you must enter mg-tabc in the User Name box and xpag in the Password box. Look for my document titled, "Stop Oil Leaks.doc". Without resorting to costly mods, this document gives tips on how to stop most oil leaks at low cost by installing a new front lip seal and how to properly install the sump gasket and cork seal that abuts the rear bearing cap, all of which can be done while working under the car (albeit at the usual discomfort). It's my firm belief that improper installation of the cork gasket on the rear bearing cap is responsible for the majority of oil leaks at the rear of the engine. The proof in the pudding is that my car, Abbie, used to drop quarts of oil on the garage floor until I installed a lip seal and took greater care in the way I installed the sump and cork gaskets. Now, I rarely see a drop of oil. In addition, if you reside in a hot weather area, see my article on "Cooling The T-Series Engine." Cheers, Skip (TB 0304)
