I'm feel frustrated in that I can not seam to seal the new cork and Petrol Sender unit on my TC. I have tried 3 times now using a new each time. However, once I put the petrol in, start to seep after a few days. So help please: I am reluctant to over tighten the 6 screws - what should the poundage be? I have used Petrol Patch paste a little. What do other people use? What about soaking the cork gasket in oil? Someone said try the red engine gasket stuff - any thoughts? Any thoughts would be great? cheers MG'ers Chris Blood MGTC 1947 HTD 166 (ex Police Car) Nottinghamshire, England

I discovered the answer in an Octagon Club bulletin a while ago. Throw the gasket over your left shoulder , make sure the faces to be sealed are good (this is obviously important) and use Hylomar type universal jointing compound available from Rover dealers as Unipart No. GGC 102 with no gasket. Chris I did mine some years back, you might try making the gasket out of sheet gasket material, not cork, make sure that the surface is flat, it not, maybe double up on the gasket material, wipe the metal surfaces with lacquer thinner, put some of the best gasket cement that you have there on the surfaces, keep it out of the screw holes, use teflon pipe dope (liquid not tape) on the screws, so they do not weep. This has always worked for me. You do not have to tighten the screw to tight, just snug plus a little. using the teflon pipe dope will let you take them out later Cheers Dean Illinois

Some one here must have accumulated a FAQ for this subject by now. They should post it on our web site for the newbies to reference. Alternatively try this site:http://cci.ct.tudelft.nl/danko/TD-FAQ.html TD's have the same problem.... Be sure not to overtighten the screws.. Terry in Oakland

Chris I like "Aviation Permatex" this is impervious to gas but alcohol cleans it, have you tried some little flat washer on the screws also coated with permatex, maybe switch to a paper gasket? Joe Curto

Joe: I have always used a product called "Seal-All". It comes in a 3/4 oz. yellow and red tube, is impervious to gasoline. It works like a champ. It is made by the Allen Products corp. in Detroit, MI. 48214. I have used this product for many years with no more leaks. My sending unit has been bone dry for 16 years. Chris, I manufacture a gas tank sending unit which is machined out of solid billet. It has an "O" ring outside of the bolt circle.. All the screws have "O" rings on them.. I use the original float and arm. The cost is $225.00 exchange as I need the original float arm an float. Mike Goodman

However, once I put the petrol in, start to seep after a few days. So help please: This might not be of use to you Chris, but the ultimate solution to the famed TC sender unit problem is to install Mike Goodman's new sender unit design which uses an O-ring to seal against the tank opening as well as O-rings on the mounting screws. I installed this unit on my blown TC (now ex-blown TC) last year and there are no more leaks - problem solved permanently. Mike is a well-known MG guru here in Southern California and builds the units to order. It works! Bill Harkins Fallbrook, CA Your use of Yahoo! Groups is subject to http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/
