On my car the bracket at the bottom of the shell which hold the centre bars of the frame the slats fix to has broken away. I have several soldering irons and could solder it back on but my feeling is why take a chance of making the chrome have a blue spot, epoxy resin will hold it better than solder and no risk.

I agree with Ian. I have used a large old Electric soldering iron with very large copper? tip to soft solder these brass screws onto the inside of the rad shell. I used 10/32 flat head brass screws, tinned the inside of the shell where the screw is needed, then set the screw into the tinning and heated the screw/tinning.  Works for me.  No indication on outside of shell that the soldering iron had been used.

I would NOT try a flame torch.

And I have not tried epoxy.

Anyone tried an epoxy fix?  Any favorites like good old JB Weld?  Any other ideas/suggestions?  I d like to get rid of the tie wraps holding the slats together

I have been able to soft solder these the original way without damaging the chrome.

I have several soldering irons and could solder it back on but my feeling is why take a chance of making the chrome have a blue spot, epoxy resin will hold it better than solder and no risk. Any favorites like good old JB Weld? Any other ideas/suggestions? I d like to get rid of the tie wraps holding the slats together I have been able to soft solder these the original way without damaging the chrome. Ian Thomson Notts. UK ._,_.___
