Sidescreens and Interior

Post by Terry O'Brien » Sun Mar 04, 2001 8:11 pm

This no doubt will be the first of many questions; better to ask while they are fresh. Have now got the interior mostly removed and have stripped the sidecurtains and the hood. Both are 1960s replacements and not worth saving even for patterns. The half-round chrome on brass surrounds are in reasonably good condition and will be rechromed. They were held in place by the sliding T head bolts which I assume are original but many of them, particularly on the lower surrounds, are badly rusted; a couple to the point that they have cracked the surrounds.I would have thought that these T-bolts and nuts would have been 2BA but they are not; a 2BA socket is too big and a 3BA too small. The only wrench size that I could find to fit is a 9/32. Questions: 1. Does anyone know the original size? Those T bolts which are not badly rusted are well shaped to fit the surrounds. That makes me think they are original but the odd size nut puzzles me. 2. Mike Sherrell suggests using brass bolts and nuts and given what I have just seen that seems to make good sense. But he doesn't give any sizes. Any suggestions? 3. Malcom Green says that with today's thicker covering material and windows you may well need longer bolts than original. Moss and I presume others sell sets. Does anyone have any experience with them? I would assume they are steel? 4. The seat back has all its original fittings etc. but has a plasticized shiny white finish. Is this original on a 49? The seats themselves are certainly original, not salvageable but perfect for patterns. Terry TC8202

Terry: The T-Bolts available from Abingdon Spares are stainless steel. Ken TC 4147 Terry O'Brien wrote:
