MPJG Engine Performance Tuning

Post by Monoxidemanor@aol.com » Mon Feb 26, 2001 7:03 pm

Dear Kimberites: Hemmo de Groot's comments about improving the performance on his TA engine causes us to ask those on the list for their thoughts. As John Seim and Pete Thelander know, after a garage tech session that we held last November, we have our TA stripped down and are now prepping the parts for assembly later this year. We have decided on the following California- cruising highway set up : 1. 4.2 Sprite third member for the rear axle 2. Phoenix counter-balanced crank shaft with modern con-rods (clip bearings) and pistons 3. Moss Motors, or similar, TC/TD blower kit modified to fit the TA engine (would not consider the Sprite dif. without a blower). 4. We are keeping the original wet clutch. They don't scare us. Questions: How do we lighten the TA flywheel? Should we stick with cork as the material for the clutch or is there a better one? What does Hemmo mean by 1500 valves? What camshafts alternatives to we have? What piston choices to we have? Higher or lower compression? Sources? Anyone have a source for an intake manifold for the Moss Motors blower kit to fit a MPJG engine? (We have been told that the kit does not require modifying the side panel to the bonnet to accommodate the blower pulley.) Who is a good and trusted source in southern California for polishing the insides of the heads and manifolds for smoother air flow? We appreciate your help.
