Painted bolts/nuts

I have been told over the years that the undercarriage nuts and bolts on MG's were hand painted black and body colour before leaving the works. Does anyone have a reference that could be used to confirm this? Cheers...Bill Bollendonk, Colorado, USA, PA,TA, TD
