Hello Benny.  Like the others stated, there is no gasket between the cover and the oil pump body.  The clearance between the gears and the cover is .0015 to .003 adding gasket sealent will add to this clearance and lower the oil pressure.  As for lapping the cover flat, I have yet to see any cover that this was done to that I have repaired be flat.  You can tell from the way the surface looks that someone tried to lap it.  It takes a lot of practice to not add extra pressure when you reverse direction.  I have seen over .010 rounding along the edges.   Also, if you need to use copper washers instead of lock washers to stop a leak, either the cover or the pump body is not flat or has scratches.   Butch From: "jaguarb@inter.net.il" jaguarb@inter.net.il> To: mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com Sent: Tuesday, November 12, 2013 11:42 PM Subject: [mg-tabc] oil pump   Friends of the forum, I am going to install the oil pump on the XPAG engine. According to the books there is no gasket between the cover and the body of the pump. Dose someone had problems of oil leakage from the cover? What about the usage of a thin layer of modern sealant (Locktite?) between the cover and the body? Thanks Benny

Butch, Don't discourage him! Perfectly flat or not at the edges, most, if not all, hand-lapped pumps will seal perfectly fine and won't leak.  Also, since the copper washers are added as the pump is reassembled it's hard to know whether they're being used to stop a leak or not - they're simply insurance against one. It's a lot easier for the oil to go where it's supposed to go than to leak past two flat, smooth surfaces to get to the outer edges of the pump. Does anyone know if the later pre-prime-able TD (removable top nut to pre-prime) & or later TF self priming oil pumps are compatible the TC XPAG engine?

They are all compatible. You have to remove the by-pass valve from in the engine block on the TC engine, and plug the threaded oil return hole in the block, next to the banjo bolt for the oilpipe, block to head. John SeimIrvine, CA

Does anyone know if the TC oil pump can be modified by drilling an air bleed hole in pump as Factory did on TF XPEG pump so pump is self priming? If so, are there directions.
