I am 69, have been ride for 53 years, have had 26 motorcycles, and now have two (2) KLRs.....a '13 geared for over the road, and an '06 for dualsport activities...the latter being almost 100 lbs lighter than the former.  I have no plans to stop riding and just moved to the southwest from Philly to perpetuate my illness.    wife passed 13 years ago so WTF, right?

  I'm 59, have a Klr, Gold wing, ST 1300 and ruckus. I too like riding alone but, I bought a Spot for exactly that reason. My son was riding four weeks ago on a solo trip. Went down. Broke his collarbone. Punch the spot button and less than an hour later rescue crews there

I believe that I have all of you for age. I'll be 82 next month, have a 85 KLR 650 with 11 K. Been lurking for 10 years. Still ride on occasion. Bill F-Is it 'true' without pictures? wink.The 85 is a KLR600 IFAIK...unless you did an upgrade. grin. Nonetheless, you are double-inspirational to many of us to still be riding a big thumper.I ride with a 70, 75 year old men that are life time enduro riders...I learned a lot following them around, and never once did they say, 'hey, watch this,' however, they did go a few places I just watched...from the dirt nap position. m.

Hey! Go for it! You'll love it. Been having my present KLR for 16 yrs now. 1st one I kept 3 yrs before trading it in on a '95 R11GS. Bought my present one to finish the TAT portion from Central Arkansas to Utah in 2000/2001.   Now, I did give my body a present at 61 yrs old and stopped camping off the bike. And , at 70, had a heck of a crash missing a deer in West Texas's Davis Mountains. So just doing local back roads about South Louisiana and East Texas since with the KLR my main local go to bike , but, keep the '07 Bandit 1250s cause I just love a spin on it ever so often. Still pretty muck an everyday rider at 73 yrs but so much has change since '58 and my first bike, a '56 Harley 165 as it was called back then.

I hope I am riding at 73. God willing. Found a place to ride off road last year not to far from the house when I had the XR650L. And I absolutely loved it. You guys have talked me into getting another dual sport bike. Now I'm thinking that I will keep the VTX1300C, and just get a KLR650 also. Took the VTX out last night at 10 pm and rode for about an hour. IRT to 100 degree heat--and surviving,Fred has a hydration/evaporation vest (you prolly can tell, I don't have one, yet) that is soaked in water and ridden under your mesh jacket till it all evaps, a real cool farkle. smirk/gag. Or you can go another route and use a farmers bandana, soaked in water tied around your neck.(guess which one I use).m1.

Ed, 10pm bike rides in the Dakota's will put you in the middle of the deer-hunting roulette.Or do the deer consider it people hunting? I recently hit one at sunset, left a cantaloupe sized bruise on my calf (lucky me).I know it snapped its neck pretty hard when it stuck its nose into my fly-zone.Miss one, clipped one, missed a third.... Days later,Then Jeff S and I recovered a NY rider 225 miles from here that spent 13 days in the hospital after a KLR vs prairie deer strike. after dark.Some ride after dark, some don't.m.

Hi Guys Long time KLR rider here, 65yo and now retired at the 6000ft level in Wrightwood CA...   so we do have four seasons in the middle of the SoCal Desert. Having finished major reconstruction of our retirement property, I finally was able to pull the two wheelers out of storage this spring where they have sitting for the last couple of years.  The first, an A17 set up for road work was delivered to my son in Vancouver WA. He is the new owner and is planning to use it for local commuting.   The other is an a15 in parts, along with a partially installed DMC enduro sidecar.... hope to have this one running by fall.  The third is a plated '00 DRZ-e  that I have set up for adventure riding.. I had the suspension set up for my weight (alot) added a 441 big bore kit andespecially installed  the NOVA Wide Ratio Gear Set.  With my DRZ set up this way, I felt I no longer needed my solo KLR because the engine mods and the gears give me the low end and lightness of the DRZ off road with the top end of a stock geared KLR for the highway. But last weekend on my first off road ride in years, I learned that I do have to relearn my dirt bike skills. But...   as you can see from this video, my DRZ is "just fine" (read fully paid for) for this kind of riding.  The only work on the bike left is to decide on final gearing, the rack and luggage system needed to carry my camping gear...  and if I should go to a "cush" hub for the rear wheel.Plus I need to re adjust my riding gear for off road touring.... its much too clunky for travel but great for dirt bike training.
