Hi all, I am thinking of trading my VTX1300C for a 2008 KLR650. I am 61, and want to get another KLR650. I had a XR650L last year, but it was just too damn tall for my 5'11" tall frame. So how many other 61 year old's doing the dual sport thing? Bikes in the past include a, XR250L, DRZ400S, Super Sherpa, XR650L, XL500, gen 1 KLR650.

I'm 63 and still dual sporting on my KLR. Haven't logged many miles lately due to heart surgery but just about fully recovered and I will be ready to ride again soon. 64 and still going strong, we'll almost bad hips & back, but as long as I stay upright and don't have to push the beast, I'll keep going, doing mostly trails with the klr 650. Goldwing for long long trips & harley for around town and short country trips. .

AT 59, can't say I qualify, but just road Oregon and Idaho backroads to wilderness remote locations.  Gravel, twisties, single lane with pullouts, fire tower attempts, all fully self contained.  Love this bike and married my Chiropractor.  She made the ride too. I'm 62, and just sold my latest KLR (a '98). I now own a KTM 690 Enduro. In the past I've owned 4 KLR 650's, a DRZ 400, a KLX 400, an XR 650L, and an XR 400. I'm also 5'-11". Paul Streeter

67 and still have my KLR, although I seem to find driving the sports cars and doing bike work to be more attractive. Not quite ready to give it up.

Hey Paul, thanks for the inspiration. I am in really good shape and can still do single track trails. Road bikes just get so boring. I rode with a few guys from the development last summer, we all had cruisers. But no one is riding this summer, and I am just getting tired of riding around. When I had the XR650L last year, I had a couple of places off road to ride that was a lot of fun.

Ez- I am 61.5 and still riding...with some caveats. 300 miles of gravel or 200 miles of firetrails is plenty for one day. =the new maximums If you are asking question you are ready to remoin the comminity. Having said that, I joined the KLR community ity 13 years ago and much of my farkle for thr KLRwaspurchased from a60 year old man that quit riding to appease his wife (he said). I like riding alone, yet readily recognize that if I have an incident while riding alone, the first 'responder' to my plight very well might be a Coyote or mountain lion. Ymmv. m1.

old dual sport guy here

Post by Dale Schedler » Tue Jul 26, 2016 7:53 pm

I'm 59, have a Klr, Gold wing, ST 1300 and ruckus. I too like riding alone but, I bought a Spot for exactly that reason. My son was riding four weeks ago on a solo trip. Went down. Broke his collarbone. Punch the spot button and less than an hour later rescue crews there

Ymmv. m1. > >
