Thanks for the detailed explanation. I can see that this is probably more than I can do by myself. For now I think I will just clean the bearings and re-grease and install. The races look smooth and shiny with no rust or pitting. The bearings look to be in good condition too. I'll give that a try and if it doesn't fix the problem I will have to follow your guidelines and do a replacement. One more question though. Is it really necessary to replace the races if they are smooth and shiny? Can't I just replace the bearings. I think I can handle replacing the bearings but getting the races out and back in sounds like I might be in over my head. Bruce
<><><><><><> <><><><><><> Bruce, The races and bearings are a matched set. They are always replaced together. A used race that looks good will still have wear and degrade the new parts. Good that you recognize your capabilities and limitations. A good cleaning, lube and adjustment might work fine. Do the adjustment before you install the forks as you will be able to easily tell how the adjustment is going. Once you have the adjustment correct, then install the forks and put it all back together. Best,

Yes, bearings and races become one, as you and yours. You could have old race taken off, the new pressed on and do the rest yourself. Anyways, you buy them as a set. Wouldn't be expensive, find a local guy look at his shop ask about his work. Plenty of talent out there. You will get screwed at the dealer.

How do your seals look, losing oil?. Be careful with the bearing, needs to be straight and true, quality grease, I'm sure you can do it.
