Hey Y'all Many will say, the Doo Hickey needs adjusting as the chain wears,..... NOPE! The Main issue is, The 3 main Balancer chain,.... Sprockets, Have "Rubber", attached, absorbs Vibration, Etc.,  And it's the Rubber that wears down. (WEARS OUT) (Googled Images) https://www.google.com/search?q=KLR650+Balancer+chain+Sprockets&rlz=1C1FGGD_enUS500US519&espv=2&biw=1280&bih=637&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj-tuWKwcrMAhVKKyYKHenNAvAQ_AUIBygC The chain Does not, ride in the Bottom of the Sprockets, Instead, The chain rides ON THE RUBBER, It is only pulled by the Sprocket Teeth. Hence as the Rubber wears, the chain gets slack, and the Doo Tensioner needs to "Tighten" the Chain. The Doo can only pull so far, before HITTING the Casing, and stop moving.  As the Rubber wears down, The chain gets Sloppy, the Chain starts jerking and Hitting harder on the $PECIAL, Kawasaki OEM ONLY$Sprocket.  (Top Right Balancer Sprocket, Known issue, Hence being extra hardened.) Also ADDS NOISE AND VIBRATION. when the Chain is hitting Steel, on those 3 Sprockets, instead of being Absorbed by the Rubber, Hence, causing More Vibration and "Chain Noise". SO,....... When side cover off, Doing the Doo, Examine those Sprockets. PS. IF,... The Top R. Bearing goes out. The chain causes LOTS of Damage.  I had to replace My Case etc etc etc etc etc. this winter, after Mine went during Trip last Oct., and Trailered hm.

Curious, what kind of mileage was on your bike when this happened? I picked up a 1990 Tengai recently with 19,000 miles on it. About to go through it and see what all HASN'T been done to it. Thanks.
