Post by eddie mauri » Thu Apr 28, 2016 1:50 am

I was with a friend of mine, and he said that he's tired of his wife, and he'd like a divorce. I asked, "What's stopping you", he said, " "Well, I have too much time and money invested in her, I don't want to start over." I said gee, that's how I feel about my KLR. I have a 2003 KLR, and to be perfectly honest, I'd like to buy a newer model. I've got the money, I just don't know what keeps me attached to my 03' KLR. I have my 03' Farkled just like I want it, and it runs great, it has never let me down. But still, I want a shiney new one. So, instead of getting rid of my KLR, I am thinking of getting a mistress, a Moto Guzzi R7................ Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

Well I got the pilot jet out by using some penetrating fluid and working the jet back and forth. The tip was bent and the spring was wasted. Tried to put the new one in and the threads in the shaft the pilot jet was buggered up from someone. Had to put the old one back in with the new spring and new rubber and metal washers. Straightened the tip best I could. Installed carb and new choke cable too, and it runs great. Thanks to all for the recommendations to get the pilot jet out.
Now I think I have a leaking rear shock. Don't want to spend the $400 to $500 for a new fancy one or the $1100 for an OEM shock. Anyone have a rear shock that will fit a 2008?

What you have removed from your carburetor is not the pilot jet but the air screw.  Totally different.  The pilot jet is inside the float bowl where the air screw is on the outside.   I should have several used rear shocks for both early and late model KLRs. When he mentioned Spring, I thought, not the pilot jet my own self.  Good on ya for getting it out without destroying the carb.

I had to chuckle. I know you were simply agreeing with Fred but it sounded like there could be doubt in anyone's mind that Fred might be incorrect about carb parts. ;-)
