I have a 2013 KLR 650 and need a new rear shock. I see a couple of pre-2008 shocks on craigslist, and wondering what it would take to get one of those to work on my 2013. Anyone tried this?

The shocks are the same.  The difference is the lower clevis mount is thinner with a shorter bolt for the late model shock.  If you use the early model shock you will need the longer lower mounting bolt too. Hi, I have a really good shock from my '07 that I would be willing to part with. It has less than 5K on it. I upgraded the shock almost immediately when I got my bike. Thanks for the info.

It seems some of the after-market shock manufacturers have a separate part number for the different years and that spooked me. 

 I'll make sure I get the longer bolt with the older shock.
