A couple years ago I bought a Deka Battery for the KLR from a dealer recommended on this site. Well, it is time to get one for the GF BMW F650 Dakar. I cannot find the information on where I got it, can anyone remember and send me the link? I think they were out of Pennsylvania? Michael

Bought a Big Crank from Battery Mart in 2010 for my KLR and it's still going strong.

The KLR is much more powerful, smoother and has better brakes than the classic 650 Bonneville. I hadn't ridden a Bonnie in decades so the comparison had slipped out of focus until swapping bikes for a ride about 10 years ago.

Never heard of them, and I'm versed more than most is stuff like this. Shorai, however, puts out a solid Lithium-Iron (FE), that weighs about a pound, for semi-reasonable money. I'd either buy that, a cheapie at Walmart, or an Oddessey. At least with an Oddessey you can buy them, and warranty them, at any batteries Plus place. I can also warranty my Shorai at my local bike shop. But personally, I'd never buy something like that, that I can't easily warranty somewhere. Doesn't help your search, but maybe helps on another angle of thought. A story that might sway your case. Of similar money are LiPo remote control car batteries, which can cost anywhere from $30 to well over $100. I bought a brand that was new to me, ran it once, it wouldn't recharge, and when I tried to return it, the hobby shop said that brand doesn't have any warranty policy. I was pissed. This all happened on the same day. Since wasting $75 on one of those batteries, I'm a bit pickier about all of my batteries. Ryan Phoenix On 2/13/2016 12:29 AM, libertyeagle@... [DSN_KLR650] wrote:

Deka battery is indeed in PA, I worked for them once upon a time. Their HQ is the world's largest battery manufacturer.

Yuasa is also in PA. I never knew why this part of the country is car battery central - probably just the result of 2 big companies being here for a long time.

I've been using Deltran (the Battery Tender people) Li batteries lately. At about $100, lower in price than Shorai, the battery is more expensive than lead acid, but they can sit around for a year or more and still hold 95% or more of their charge. The added bonus is that they are very lightweight and you can use the same battery size across several bikes. Each battery comes with foam stick-on pads to make it fit the stock battery box.

The added bonus of a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery is that it is very lightweight and can be put in the bike upside down, sideways, etc. It also has 4 terminals; you can orient the battery so that the negative is on the left or the right, your choice.

Battery Tender BTL14A240C fits the KLR and just about any other motorcycle. I have this battery in the KLR and my ZRX-1200. The supplied foam spacer pads are VERY sticky, and once applied, they'll stay in place.
