I saw these at the motoshow, and was tempted, as they did seem to be warm gloves. The problem, in my view, is that they are not real motorcycle gloves, i.e. they offer minimal or no crash protection. They look like snowmobiling gloves, or skiing gloves with a thin layer of leather sewn on the palm. I want to be warm, but I'd rather keep my hands protected in case of an accident. You would get the same amount of crash protection from a ski glove and, to me, that's not good enough for street riding. YGlovesMV, Gustavo

I recently purchased a pair of gloves from REI-Outlet. The gloves have a codura outer, Sympatex layer, fleece inner and a separate fleece glove insert that zips in place. It's advertised as a three-in-one winter sports waterproof glove. The gloves are pretty comfortable, although they may be a slight bit bulky (what winter gloves aren't). I've worn them at 40 degrees with the liners in and they almost seemed a little too warm. Anyway, I submerged the gloves in a five gallon bucket of water to see just how 'waterproof' they were. I ran a stopwatch to see how long they would stay dry inside. The right hand glove stayed dry almost a full minute before I felt water coming in. The left hand glove did more than a minute and a half. I have some 'waterproof' Honda over mittens that don't stay dry that long when submerged, but last about an hour in a downpour before getting wet inside. I know this isn't a real world test of a motorcycle glove, but I figured I'd try it just to see what happened. My next test will be seeing how long they stay dry while spraying water at them with the hose, unless I get the chance to ride in the rain soon. The gloves were purchased from REI-Outlet for half of original cost. 6556840079 $34.93 GCS Storm Gloves - Men's - Closeout BLACK LARGE It might be interesting to hear some other results of testing of various other gloves, especially since the cold weather is coming. I think that is about as good a test as you could give them. Winter's coming. It's nice to have some warm waterproof gloves.

if you intend to ride in cold inclement weather you might want to invest in a pair of these . they are made for a atv but see no reason they won't work on motorcycle. my local wal-mart had them in black. with these you might not need bulky gloves except in very cold conditions. they did look like they had plenty of room for them if they are needed. I haven't tried them yet just saw them while getting the tank bag. There's a company north of my home called Granite Gear that makes winter gloves, compression stuffsacks and packs. All very high quality, durable goods. They sell a Goretex insert that will make any glove waterproof. -Jim Duluth

Winter gloves being used where and under what type of winter conditions? Winter riding in Key West, Fl calls for a different glove than Seattle, Wa or Nome, Ak. I ride year round here in New Hampshire. I also use my riding gear for other outdoor winter activities such as snowboarding and snowmobiling, so it has to be well made and perform as advertised. I recently bought a pair of $100 Rev It! waterproof leather cold riding gloves. Yes, they are waterproof, but they DO NOT keep my hands warm. Last week, it was 14(f) when I left for my 30 minute ride to work. Even with my heated grips on high, my hands got so painfully cold that after I got to work it took about 30 minutes before they felt normal again. The next morning, in similar temps, I wore my 30+ year old Burton snowboard mittens, with fleece finger glove liners, and my hands were warm for the entire ride. I will be looking into getting a pair of Baffin mittens that have a separate index finger for better dexterity: CLAW GLOVE UNISEX CLAW GLOVE UNISEX Baffin is Canadas largest manufacturer of winters boots! I live near Drain, Oregon. It's about halfway between Eugene and Roseburg, just west of I-5. A smaller amount of my riding is done in the rain, or when it's below 40 degrees F. I would like to have gloves that are adequate for those conditions, or worse, when traveling. I prefer gloves over mittens.
