fork tube extenders

Post by Mark Van Horn » Sun Dec 06, 2015 1:00 pm

To many KLR owners, they're a good thing as long as they cost money and can be added to the bike. Joking aside, they are taller fork tube caps that have an additional 30mm or so of material that sits above the tube. This allows the tube to be recessed deeper in the triple clamp, thus raising the front suspension in conjunction with shock raising links to preserve overall geometry. They have also been used to compensate for the shorter Tengai forks when adapting them to the stock KLR.

Kidding aside, I feel really bad for anyone who has this happen. I don't hate BMW of BMW owners although do like to tease them. This would be an amazingly bad event on a long trip with detour into the back country. Hauling it out to a shop, accommodation while awaiting parts, big parts costs....wow! Anyone in this part of the world while traveling might wish to keep my contact on file as I often bail people out. One of my biggest regrets was in having to refuse to collect a broken down KLR about 35 miles away because was up against a deadline to get a friend home to go to work next day while running back and forth to emergency to help with Dad.
