I am going to the San Mateo show by way of a dog agility trial with my wife in Santa Rosa. On Saturday I plan on attending the show and taking lots of digital photos of bikes I should own and accessories I need, well if I had Bill Gates as a sponsor. Hopefully no rain to allow demo rides (Kawasaki, Hardly Ableson/Buell, Yamaha, Paiggio, and KTM !). Hello all. The San Mateo Intl MC Show had interesting vintage bikes in several categories and some good demo rides part way up Hwy 92 towards Half Moon Bay. I saw 95 mph on a KTM 990 Super Duke on a demo ride and can only explain that I was looking up at the lead safety lead rider and not at the speedo. I was more relaxed later in the day on a Yamaha FJR1300 demo ride. The show was spread out in 5 buildings and seemed a good value if looking at new models or accessories or clothing. Today I went to the IMS/Progressive Motorcycle Show in Sacramento... First I want to say they did an awesome job... It was a great show! OUR BELOVED KLR 650 has the NEW Digitec Camo with a black Frame and wheels... I cannot imagine wanting a new KLR but seeing that combo has me thinking... HUM??? I think it is the best looking combo and would be an awesome Zombie Army Vehicle. That said I test road Both the Super Tenere' and the DL1000 Vstrom. They are about $5000 different in price and I don't see $5k difference between them. They are both Awesome machines and I would not mind either for Christmas if anyone feels the need to gift me one or both (I promise to change the gas often!!!). But, I would say the Vstrom is the better fit for me, I really enjoyed EVERYTHING except the foot pegs... I would add some crash protection without question... It is not a KLR for good and bad. I met some of the finest people, had a great time, my Lady friend and her son enjoyed it and he is now in love with Dirt Flat track racing... and "NOW" is enthusiastic about getting a dirt bike, I have one I am building for him I was waiting for the right time. Having gone to this show, I can only say... there are some amazing machines being built today, and accessories available are capable of making any machine a personal friend. And that Motorcycle People are the finest most well behaved of anywhere I have been at any large scale event... I was proud to have riden there... and able to Ride my KLR away after the show. Got to speak with many other KLR riders, including a couple from South Dakota doing a year long around the country and Mexico tour. They were I am guessing in their 70's riding almost matching (an 09 and a 15) "fully farkled" adventure bikes. "We decided if not now, when?" and they put their stuff in Storage and off they went. That is living. I am so pleased each of you has shared this part of my life... and am Proud to know each and every one of you as a friend or just as someone to wave to on the highway. Didn't realize they'd moved the show to Sac.  Been a while since attending. Definitely a good place to get the juices flowing.  Then meeting that couple on their year long journey.  Amazing what some folks do on the KLR.  We've all had 101 ideas of how the KLR could be improved or changed but at end of the day I'm glad it's stayed much the same otherwise we could be dealing with a much more complex and expensive machine.  Price of the big adventure bikes has gotten quite high.  If the Suzuki fits the bill for you, go for it.  Agree it's a bargain compared to the rest.  Best thing about those big bikes are their carrying capacity and long legs for highway miles.

Went to the Sacramento show on Saturday. I liked and think it will grow in the future years. I was hoping they would enter through the Main Gate. This would have been more impressive for those who have never been to CalExpo. The crowds were good and not overwhelming. Good vendor contact. Liked how they separated the motorcycles from the gear and accessories. The stage is good but the music is a distraction to persons trying to talk. Outdoor food is questionable this time of year. It rained on Sunday. A friend is trying to sell a Harley Dyna Custom that he picked up in a trade. Made a excellent contact with Sac HD. Polaris Slingshot and Royal Infield had a very good response from the attendees, including me. BMW puts on a good show. Kawasaki / KLR had a well lighted display. Yamaha Motorcycles was ho hum. Yamaha Outdoors was very nice. Liked the 2016 Anniversary colors. I own a KLR and Tenere ES. My purchase for the day was a Big Skinny wallet. Very KLRish of me.

If you are thinking about the VStrom 1000 be sure to also ride the "WeeStrom" 650.  Many of those that ride both of the Stroms pick the 650 over the  larger stablemate.

I often wonder that if I would of bought the wee instead of the 1000 back in '07 that I might still have it instead of trading the 1000 off for my 1250S Bandit  with only about 16,000 miles on it in 14 months.
