Rolling east through SD on the KLR.  Since passing Sturgis, I’ve seen an amazing variety of sights: Black Angus, Red Angus, Reddish-Blackish Angus, Blackish-Reddish Angus…and ONE Texas Longhorn who was staring forlornly SOUTH.

If I remember my SD geography correctly, next up is the endless waves of corn.  Ya, I miss the purple mountains’ majesty already.

Headed for Chicagoland to meet fellow KLRista Mark Ward then south to the Smoky MOUNTAINS.

Chicagoland? & Faith SD At this rate, you may end up near Madison on the Weekend (fri-sat.) Is Your son Penciled back in? And,.... Once you hit the Bottom of Lake Mich, (Gary+-) Coming to My place would add a whole nother day of riding "flat" lands.(North 150+ From Gary to Grand Rapids Then 100 Back South To Indiana to get back on track South) NOT trying to talk you out of or into But just sharing what I see on Maps, & Know East of the Rockies to Mich. is a LOOOONG FLAT BORING ride, in general. I kind of expect you to Head West To the Rockies, when you leave the Smokies etc.. when you leave, Temps will have Dropped From early Evenings threw Late Mornings. I will be taking or ship, my Gerbing coat with me, and made sure the New Oxfords were installed, do to Experience the last 4-6 yrs in late Sept to mid Oct. Figures that Martin would be in PA at the same time I'm in SD! Leaving this coming Thursday, going directly to Wisconsin for a couple days with my daughter and grandsons, then moseying across the north central states with no fixed agenda other than ending up in CA in the 2nd week of October. Subject of an NKLR post that's coming next.....

Ya, I seem to always be on the road when folks come through Seattle.  Murphy's Law! Just rolled over 3500 miles on the trip odometer (GPS) this trip. Currently in Kentucky not far from Mammoth Cave.  The 07 KLR I bought in MI and rode back to Seattle now has 22K on the odometer, it had about 2K when I bought it last summer. I've replaced the chain, drive sprocket and front tire so far on this trip.  The D606 rear is holding up very well but the front was shot at 3500 due to uneven wear from the oversize rotor. I would have replaced the driven sprocket as well but couldn't find one in stock anywhere.  I'll order one from Fred as soon as I stop somewhere for more than overnight. I'll try to update the smugmug track as soon as I get a wifi connection. Yes,the ramp-like wear patterns on  the center knobs were not encountered  before going to an oversized rotor.  Others have also noted these same unusual wear patterns. To be clear its not the rotor per se but rather the more vigorous braking (enabled by the oversize rotor) that is causing the unusual wear. From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: 9/ 24/ 2015 1:23 PM To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [DSN_KLR650] Faith, SD   Uneven tire wear from an over size rotor?

Sheesh - I neglect to lurk at one of my favorite old forums for (just) a year or two and see what happens! I've been missing another John B epic trip. I'm with ya now for the rest of the trip John - safe travels and we'll catch up (Testy Chef?) after you get back. Pat M 'Treadin' troddin' trails for a long - long - time . . .'
