I had a metallic "clunk/clank" everytime I hit a bump or hole, let me guess you hear this noice as the tire is traveling downward ?
Steering Head Bearings were loose on my new bike. Dealer tighened up and noise is gone.

Had that happen after my last ride, right after I nailed my rim.
What I found out after looking is the steering head nut was backed
out against the handlebars. Tightening it up should have taken care
of the noise, but it'll have to wait until I get the rim back to make
sure. Also, jam a piece of plastic between the ignition switch and
the instrument cluster (round opening around the ignition) That
instrument cluster really rocks and rolls while riding hard. That
worked for Mark Van Horn. Might work for me, but again, the rim.....

Could be loose steering stem bearings. Or keys hanging off of the
ignition.

I have the same problem. My speedo/tach plays around ignition key.
I didn't know how to fix it also.

I recently purchased a KLR and recently joined this list.
The reason i joined the list was mainly for help with technical questions.
I've seen enough doohickey messages to sink a ship.
I intend to replace mine and therefore have a question.
How many of the tools are really needed to do the job?
What's the best replacement part to use. I believe there are at least two
replacements available but maybe I'm wrong.
I'm also trying to get a little better response from the engine and I'm
doing some carburetion changes.
Have shimmed up the needle by .065" and adjusted the pilot screw.
I'd like to install a 42 pilot jet but can't find a part number for it.
The Kawasaki microfiche only list the 40 pilot jet
Is there anyone on this list that can help me with these questions.

Maybe the woodruff key fell out of the slot when you reinstalled the
rotor??? Then you tightened the rotor bolt and thought all was well.
But it wasn't. I think I'd check that first. Did you run the bike
between the time you replaced the doohickey and adjusted the valves?
Maybe the rotor was out of time just enough to make you think the crank
was at top dead center but if the rotor had slipped and you adjusted the
valves you may now have two problems. The rotor being out of time and
the valves being adjusted not at TDC.
Just a couple of thoughts.

Hi, folks I have a 2004 klr650 and have a question.
My wife like to ride but she is big and complains that the grab bars cut into her backsides. Been trying to figure out how what to do with them. Have not come up with anything yet other than cutting them off, which I don't want to do because the kids like to use them when they ride. Any suggestions?

A Corbin seat might help. See you you can find a nearby KLR owner
with one that she can test fit. Otherwise I'd try the suggestions
below. Sheepskins are comfy & cheap.
Any chance she'd want to pilot her own ride?

Hi Guys:
Was riding my 01 KLR this afternoon, having a great time, when it stopped runing. Just made a turn and the engine sputtered, switched to reserve but no help. I live in the coumtry and the Gentleman whose house I stopped in front of helped me push it into his yard and gave me a ride home (very very greatful for the help especially since I had forgotten my cell phone). The bike starts and runs, no unusual noises, but when you give it throttle it dies. I suspect dirt in the carb (is there a factory installed fule filter ? ). I'd like to try to get it going befor I call the local dealer to come pich it up. My question: can I clean the carb by dropping the bowl (remember I'm working on it in the guy's yard) or any other recomendations? If I can ride it home I can do a more thorough job. Part 2: could it be a fouled plug. Start-up is normal, the enging catches right away but if you give it throttle it will rev to about 1400 then die, again no strange noises all is very normal.
