Hi Norm,
Sorry, yes my fault.It is a 2006 Yamaha xt225. The bike was stolen on June 18 2015 and found 3 weeks later. All the lights work, it cranks but does not start. I checked for the spark and it gets a very very weak spark. Maybe one spark at the beginning and when I keep cranking -no spark.
Since the wires were all sliced up by the headlight and a 20amp fuse was blown I am guessing that that they tried to jump it and burned the cdi unit. This has happened to me on my klr and when I replaced the cdi it started right up. Gas is maybe 3 weeks old. The bike was serviced at a shop about 4 months ago.
Unfortunately I only found one place that sells the cdi unit and am afraid someone else might grab it. The seller has a return policy. I am not really savvy with electronics and was thinking of ordering the cdi, trying it and see what happens.
Thoughts?

Unfortunately I cannot look at this this evening as have been working on the Gen2 wiring project all afternoon and brain needs to be removed to soak in vinegar over night.
If you need a hand tomorrow, I can try to help. I advise you to locate a wiring diagram (unless have done so) and identify the wires. All too often the wires on one side of a plug are somewhat different from those on the other side when they connect directly to a component. That bears watching but can usually be confirmed by logic and ohm meter.

Be sure your battery is charged up before replacing your CDI. I have seen several Yamahas that will crank over but the battery was low enough that the CDI didn t make a spark. Charging the battery makes all the difference. I may have a new CDI to fit your XT if it is the same one that fits a TW.

I did locate the wiring diagram. The problem is I cannot locate/match the wires going out from the key ignition properly. Like I said - I'm slightly challenged in that dept. The battery is charged up.
Is there any way to test just the cdi? Take it out check resistance?
There were two sets of wires cut. I can provide the pics tomorrow. The first set had something like 7 wires. Main harness. All the colors matched when I connected them with electrical tape. A guy told me I should be able to bump start the bike with that connected.
There was another set of wires cut from the key ignition and I could not match them.
I can email pictures tomorrow to clear things up. This is such a pain! It's summer and I want to ride!
