I just picked up a 1991 KLR and the clutch is slipping. Looks like the springs might be weak. I have specs for 2006-2007 and 2008 to current but nothing for an older model.
Would you by chance have these specs

Friction Plate Thickness 2.9-3.1mm standard and 2.75mm service limit Friction, steel plate warp less than 0.2mm and 0.3mm service limit Clutch spring free length 34.2mm and 33.1mm service limit If you are going to be in the engine you might also consider replacing the balancer sprockets and upgrading to the post 95 parts.
