loading mc on pick up truck - nklr-ish

Post by eddie mauri » Wed Apr 22, 2015 8:31 am

Y'all, quick question.  Does it make much difference if a MC is not loaded in the center of the bed in a pick-up?  I have to move my KLR and some boxes, so why not tie down the KLR on the right side of the bed (in a Toyota Tacoma) and put the boxes on the other side?  In the past I have always placed the bike in the dead center of the bed.
Thanks, in advance.

the cam advance update

Not likely. The bike still had the fork tubes in the shipping position when I got it. Any difference in cam would have had to come from the factory. On 4/22/2015 11:00 AM, 'Norm Keller' normkel32@... [DSN_KLR650] wrote:
Any chance that the bike had an other cam installed? A friend has a 2012 with which he does long road trips. He recently went from BC West Coast to Southern California, across Southern Texas to Florida, back to to Texas. They found it too cool in Texas so to Arizona, too cool so back to Southern California then back to BC. I think his assessment and sample size of fuel mileage is fairly solid? He found that advancing the exhaust cam dropped his mileage which went back up. The only one I've known so now yours is two. Maybe variations in manufacture? Interesting and something I want to follow.

EM--Pretend, for a moment, you are carrying two motorcycles,Would they both be in the center?Used to do it all the time (two bikes forward, one in backwards) shrug. (and then, three on a trailer, yippee). grin.Just push the bike up against the back of the bed. (allow for footpeg clearance).I never used any wheel chock; still don't when using a truck. Did it two weeks ago with a KLR650. it is imperative that the wheel is vertical to the bed, and perpendicular to the cab after the forks are compressed gootentite.Never had a problem; never blew a fork seal; never had a bike jump out of the truck using these parameters. I did, however, nearly drive a CB450 through the back window while riding it into the truck bed; sticky throttle. THAT I don't recommend. m.

You should be fine, as long as you have good straps. And, I like using the Block between the tire & Trippel.  Travel Safe! Travel Well! On Thursday, April 23, 2015 3:54 AM, "Buddy Eckles buddyeckles@... [DSN_KLR650]" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> wrote:
